Cyanobacteria Media BG11+

    BG11 medium with sodium nitrate added as a nitrogen supplement

BG11

1. Add 956 ml of nano-pure H2O to a 2 L flask
2. Add the following to the flask
   • 10 ml Mg(SO4) x 7 H2O
     • (7.5 g/l stock solution)
   • 10 ml CaCl2 x 2 H2O
     • (3.6 g/l stock solution)
   • 10 ml Na3-citrate x 2 H2O
     • (0.6 g/l stock solution)
   • 10 ml Na-EDTA x 2 H2O
     • (0.1 g/l stock solution)
3. Add 1 ml trace metals solution
4. Add 10 g agar
5. Autoclave at 121 °C for 20 min.
6. After cooling, add the following filter sterilized components.
   • 5 ml NaNO~3~
     • (300 g/L stock solution)
   • 2 ml BG11 Mix
   • 1 ml Vitamin B12 (0.02 g/l stock solution)
7. Pour plates (unless making broth, then don't do that, it will be a mess)
